The challenge for the buyer is that two cabin quotes that look alike on the surface can include very different levels of equipment.<\/p>\n<p>In practice: <strong>If you don\u2019t study the quotes carefully or fully understand what they include, you may end up paying for nothing \u2013 or, on the other hand, chasing a low price and choosing a package that is expensive to run or doesn\u2019t even meet your needs.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At Ehta, we believe that the term \u201cwinter-ready\u201d does not describe the quality of the cottage, but rather refers to a package that has been designed \u2013 drawing on our experience of 1 600 prefabricated cottages \u2013 to be particularly well suited to winter use.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Someone using a year-round cabin<\/strong> keeps a background heat on at the cabin all year round and uses it actively in winter too.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9ee14cb elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"9ee14cb\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Myth 2 \u2013 A thicker log is always better<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ca70002 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ca70002\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The thicker the log, the better insulated the cabin. However, good-quality <strong>insulation of the roof\/ceiling and floor structures<\/strong> improves the cabin\u2019s insulation even more than the log itself. Window and door solutions also play a part.<\/p>\n<p>A very commonly used <strong>floor-structure insulation<\/strong> is, for example, <a href=\"https:\/\/finnfoam.fi\/tuotteet\/finnfoam-eristelevyt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">XPS board sold under the brand name Finnfoam<\/a> i.e. polystyrene insulation. Even <strong>better thermal insulation is provided by the newer, eco-friendly <a href=\"https:\/\/finnfoam.fi\/tuotteet\/ff-pir\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PIR board<\/a><\/strong>, which <a href=\"#ehta-valinta-talviasuttavaan-mokkiin\">Ehta also uses in all its ready-made cabins<\/a> (in year-round cabins, the board is 50% thicker).<\/p>\n<p><strong>In the roof\/ceiling structure,<\/strong> various types of blown-in wool are commonly used. Ehta uses mineral wool insulation in the roof\/ceiling structure as standard, but winter packages also include a PIR board.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When choosing log thickness and insulation, the most important thing is to know how the cabin will be used and choose the best solution for your own needs:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If the cabin is kept warm all winter, a thicker log (e.g. 134 mm laminated log) and extra insulation pay off for the simple reason that the annual savings in heating energy are significant.<\/li>\n<li>If the cabin is heated only when needed, the benefit of a thicker log is small. And on shorter visits, massive walls don't even have time to warm up properly before it's time to leave.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Logs also differ. Laminated log insulates particularly well, as it hardly cracks or warps at all. If the cabin is used actively all year round, <b>the money spent on insulation and logs will pay for itself over the years in lower heating costs<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, certain extras (e.g. underfloor heating) require background heating to be kept on, which makes good insulation even more important.<\/p>\n<p>When comparing ready-made cabin prices, the key question is not <b>\u201chow much does year-round suitability cost?\u201d<\/b>, but <b>\u201cwhat is included in the price and what will I have to get separately?\u201d <\/b>That way, the prices of different suppliers become comparable.<\/p>\n<p><strong>So make sure you check at least:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>what the package and service as a whole include and what they don't<\/li>\n<li>how thick the log is<\/li>\n<li>what kind of insulation goes into the roof\/ceiling and floor structures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At Ehta, all buildings are made of laminated log, which is optimal in terms of heat retention, and the roof\/ceiling and floor structures are well insulated.
