Vaskivesi in Virrat is a lively rural village in northern Pirkanmaa. Thanks to the large number of holiday cottages, the population of Vaskivesi doubles in summer. At the weekend we met local entrepreneur Marko Maijala, who runs Sängenniemen Lomahuvilat in Vaskivesi. Lomahuvilat rents out high-quality holiday villas for year-round use.
When we meet, Marko shows us around Sängenniemen Lomahuvilat and especially its newest addition, a modern holiday villa to be completed in the spring. The stylish villa has three bright bedrooms, a living room with large windows, a kitchen connected to the living room and a stylish indoor sauna. But a villa must also have a lakeside sauna, Marko says.
The search for a lakeside sauna had already started in summer 2017. Requests for quotes had been sent out, but nothing suitable had turned up. After the turn of the year, Google's search engine suggested a newcomer – NEW SAUNA. It didn't take long before the deal was done. Sometimes sauna projects need special arrangements to succeed. In this case the soil on the shore was very soft, so the sauna delivery was planned for when the ground was frozen. The factory team promised a short delivery time, and Marko in turn worked his magic on the foundations in the frozen ground. On the right of the picture you can see the site of the future sauna under a heating mat. The sauna is scheduled to be delivered after Easter.
In summer, this cottage and a Sauna 16 right on the lakeshore will be waiting for their summer guests. This is a must-try – I'm already planning a weekend of my own.
