Explore Hannu-Pekka Björkman and Nina Honkanen's cabin project

Ehta delivered a 30-square-metre log cabin to Hannu-Pekka Björkman and Nina Honkanen's leisure property.

Nina's project diary

The phone of Ehta's Managing Director rang one Friday evening in September. Hannu-Pekka was calling from the veranda of his lakeside sauna. Five years earlier, the family of this artist couple had found a year-round second home on the shore of a lake near the Pihtipudas border. There were plans to build a guest cabin in the yard. Ehta's product and values had struck a chord. It was agreed that the conversation was worth continuing.

We agreed on a collaboration in which Ehta delivered a 30-square-metre log building to replace an old, dilapidated aitta on the property that Hannu-Pekka and Nina call ”Korpi”. Before that, the old building was demolished, the demolition material recycled, the plot for the cabin cleared and levelled, and the necessary landscaping and groundwork carried out. Property details

The cabin's floor plan took shape around Hannu-Pekka and Nina's needs. The two roomy bedrooms are a comfortable place to put up adult children, relatives and friends with their families. The entrance hall gives access to both bedrooms and the WC serving them, which has an incinerating toilet.

At the gable end of the building is a compact workspace with a view of the lake. Besides workshop jobs, it is a good place for writing and other artistic work.
