Ehta took part in the Helsinki Spring Fair (Kevätmessut) with the Sauna Cabin 30 building. The sauna cabin was furnished by internationally renowned Tapio Anttila – and it really showed in the result.
Tapio also visited our stand to give tips on furnishing and decorating a 30-square-metre sauna cabin.
A sauna cabin that feels bigger than it is is achieved, in Anttila's experience, through a simple basic principle:
”Light colours make a space feel larger, while dark and strong colours make it feel smaller.”
The sense of space is also affected by the size, shape and number of pieces of furniture.
In Ehta's fair sauna cabin, both dark and light colours were used, depending on the effect wanted in each space:
- The lounge with kitchenette has a light, Scandinavian colour scheme. The walls have been treated with Tikkurila's Supi sauna wax, based on natural wax (shade Tuomenkukka). The furniture and other interior design are also based on light, natural shades and on straight-lined, slender and multi-purpose elements.
- Considered use of dark colour for example in a slender stool or table provides just the right contrast.
- The bathroom is also light, as there is no point in making this rather narrow space feel even smaller with colour.
- The sauna room is dark in colour. Ehta's large steam room beautifully suits Tikkurila's dark "Piki" shade, which is calming and creates an intimate atmosphere in the sauna. The dark colour also strengthens the sense of togetherness between those using the sauna.
- Day&Night sofa bed was the most prominent piece of furniture in the lounge with kitchenette of the fair sauna. A straight-lined, multi-purpose sofa bed is an excellent choice for a small space, as it lets the room breathe and also converts into a bed.
When choosing furniture, it is also worth considering versatility. A sofa bed, for example, is for relaxing during the day and sleeping at night. Inside the sofa cushions there are pillows and duvets for the sleepers, so no separate storage space is needed.
When space is limited, every interior element that is useful as well as beautiful brings joy in a very special way. Keep the quantity down, invest in quality!
