Satu and Erkki Hertteli sold their house and were left without a sauna. So the first thing they got for their new plot was a garden sauna. Their choice was Ehta's garden sauna, ready for its first steam.
– Isn't that the traditional order anyway – first the sauna, then the houses?
Right from the start, the Herttelis admit to being sauna fanatics. The sauna is heated every evening whenever possible. Erkki even remembers a Midsummer when they had a sauna three times a day.
– The sauna benches are where you hear and tell the very best stories.
Overall value was the deciding factor
The number one criterion for the garden sauna was that it had to be made of logs. As they didn't have log-building skills themselves, the Herttelis opted for a ready-made sauna. Erkki looked into the different options, and Ehta came out on top.
– Overall value for money was a major factor. We also came to trust strongly that Ehta would deliver exactly the kind of sauna we wanted.
Of the models, the best fit seemed to be the Ehtasauna Vihta M -model (closest to our current Sauna 9 -model). Thanks to its modern mono-pitch roof, the sauna goes well with the home being built. One change was made to the sauna: the position of the partition wall was moved.
– Our grown-up children often come round for a sauna, so we wanted a more spacious sauna room.
Everything's in good shape and works
According to Satu and Erkki, getting the sauna was effortless, right down to the building permit. The building permit, applied for online, came through easily and quickly. They did the foundations themselves. The foundation method was masonry piers built on concrete footing slabs. 100 mm of polystyrene was laid for frost protection.
Erkki admits to being a thrifty person who is particular about the quality of what he buys. Ehta passed the inspection with flying colours.
– The sauna is high quality and made of proper logs. There are no gaps showing at the joints anywhere, and the trims are where they should be. Well built. The benches are sturdy and comfortable to sit on. Everything's in good shape and it works.
The steam is oxygen-rich and pleasant
Satu and Erkki treated the sauna's exterior walls with Valtti Akvacolor. The colour they chose was Tikkurila's Sora. The same shade is also on the exterior walls of the new house. The sauna fits nicely into the autumn-coloured landscape, even though the garden work is still unfinished.
– If we weren't so handy with a brush, we would have bought the sauna ready-treated.
The Herts family have been very happy with Ehta and have actively recommended it to others. Erkki particularly highlights the excellent steam.
– I guessed beforehand that a sloping ceiling would let the air circulate better over the benches. That guess has proved right. The steam is oxygen-rich and pleasant.
