We were able to participate in a backyard sauna project, where a modern backyard sauna was built as a birthday surprise for a true sauna enthusiast – Juha. Through that project, we designed and implemented an outdoor sauna that was missing from our collection. In this blog post, a few words about that sauna.
The basics of poultry house design
Sauna 10 The starting point for the design was to develop a new garden sauna model New Sauna, for the Pihasauna model range. We wanted to stick to a clear, modern design language and overall quality. The model needed a practical floor plan and to maintain a price point more affordable than market prices. To guarantee the quality of the garden sauna, the standard model was chosen to have 88mm thick laminated logs, a domestic Harvia heater, and high-quality window and door selections.
We have aimed to ensure a final product that is more affordable than market prices with familiar ingredients. Together with the factory, we have focused on manufacturability, the compatibility of materials with other garden saunas in the collection, and cost-effective marketing.
The sauna surprise was a success
After using the sauna for a few months, we had the opportunity to interview the birthday boy, Juhani: ”It was a huge surprise when, without any prior inkling, the long-dreamed-of garden sauna appeared in the yard during a weekend trip.”.
Saunojana Juhani is of a high calibre. Sauna bathing has been part of his holiday routines since his youth. During weekdays, the sauna has been heated almost daily, and in his free time, Juhani's mind has sought out the benches of various saunas. Juhani has been missing a garden sauna, but not anymore.
Lakeside sauna experiences
In his calm manner, Juhani recounts how, since the garden sauna was built, acquaintances and semi-acquaintances have been spending evenings there. ”The feedback has been overwhelmingly and incredibly positive and praiseworthy.” Even on Christmas Eve, a jogger who passed by sent a WhatsApp message asking about the warmth of the sauna, delighted by its presence.
One bathhouse user had noticed the comfort of the steam room floor for bare feet. They wondered how the courtyard sauna's floor could be so warm and comfortable even in winter frosts, despite the vigorous ventilation of the sauna having been taken care of. The excellent functionality of the steam room had been confirmed with temperature measurements from different parts of the sauna. The structure of the stove and steam room, the correct stoning, and the heat-treated floor seem to be the secret to this.
Many have also praised the way the modern garden sauna blends in with the grounds of the detached house built in the 80s. But the most important thing in a sauna is good steam. ”The best steam in the world” as one bathhouse visitor put it. It seems the Juhanis find that steam in the evenings.
