Our slogan is "From passion to the perfect garden sauna". Its purpose is to remind us of our goal – a perfect garden sauna. This is where the New Sauna story is heading, step by step. In this blog post, we've dreamed up five places where we'd like to deliver a New Sauna garden sauna, from the perspective of a garden sauna entrepreneur.
The first choice is to place the garden sauna on the shore of Suomijärvi in Vesikkovaara, Kittilä. According to Yle, ”The lake was typical in the original maps until the project's site manager, Esko Sääskilahti from Rovaniemi, had an idea.".
– I wanted to leave my own mark on the reservoir, and after considering various options, I decided to make it exactly the shape of Finland.
He also got tourism entrepreneur Keijo Kurtakko excited, and so the construction of Suomijärvi began.
The Suomijärvi was shaped in about a week with two excavators, and it is not only the right shape but also the right size. The lake is about a metre deep and 116 metres long, or Finland 10,000 times smaller.
Another dream investment for a garden sauna is the igloo villages built in Lapland. These stunning-looking buildings with their extravagant experiences particularly attract Asian travellers to Finland. It would be an honour to be involved in a sauna world to be built next to an igloo village.
According to the Arctic Snow Hotel, ”In a glass-roofed igloo, you will fall asleep to the glow of the stars and the Northern Lights, comfortably under a warm duvet. The glass igloo has its own toilet and shower, and the igloos are carefully insulated so that the cold will not surprise the visitor even on the coldest night.".
The roof of the igloo is made of electrically heated glass, which means it doesn't radiate cold air into the space, but keeps it uniformly warm and melts snow and ice from the top. In addition, the igloos always have underfloor heating. The beds in the igloos are motorised and you can easily adjust your position yourself to be optimal for sleeping or stargazing.”
A third location where a sauna cabin would be suitable is on or at the side of a hill. In this picture is Konttainen, which is part of the Natura 2000 nature conservation area. Konttainen is located about a ten-minute drive from the centre of Ruka in Kuusamo.
Konttainen is a 407-metre-high mountain with a distinctive appearance, its rocky cliff visible from the adjacent road.
Yes, the steam of the garden sauna would be enjoyable there. The scenery would be intoxicating. But the rugged, undeveloped beauty should win out here.
Löyly and Allas Sea Pool have provided a stunning example by placing Finnish cultural heritage in a prime location in Helsinki city centre. These projects should be granted an artist's grant and a cultural promotion award.
It would be incredible if, inspired by these example projects, we could build a world of Finnish saunas accessible to everyone. Different garden saunas that could be used by tourists and locals alike.
A lakeside or seaside sauna on your own plot of land. Every plot, every stretch of lake or sea is equally unique and someone's dream. It's incredibly wonderful to be involved in every garden sauna project.
Here is an example of a landscape from the shore of Saimaa, Finland's largest lake and Europe's fourth largest. The waters of Saimaa flow via Vuoksi into Lake Ladoga and further via the Neva River into the Gulf of Finland.
