Onni participated in the Helsinki Spring Fair at the Saunamökki 30 building. The sauna cottage was furnished by internationally renowned Tapio Anttila – and it really showed in the result.
Tapio also visited our stand, offering tips on furnishing and decorating a 30-square-metre sauna cabin.
A sauna cabin larger than its size Anttila's experience arises from a simple fundamental principle:
”Light colours make a space appear larger, while dark and strong colours make it appear smaller.”
In addition, the sense of space is affected by the size, shape, and quantity of furniture.
In the exhibition sauna cabin, both dark and light colours were used depending on the desired effect for the space:
- The kitchen has a light, Scandinavian tint.. The walls have been treated with Tikkurila's Supi sauna wax, which is based on natural wax (shade: Elderflower). The furniture and other decor are also based on light, natural shades and straight-lined, slender, and multifunctional elements.
- Considered dark colour Usage for example, a chair or table with a suitable contrast.
- The bathroom is also light, as this rather narrow space should not be made even smaller with colouring.
- The steam room is dark in colour. Ethan's large steam room beautifully suits Tikkurila's dark "Piki" shade, which is calming and creates an intimate atmosphere in the sauna. The dark colour also strengthens the sense of togetherness between those using the sauna.
- Day&Night sofa bed The most visible piece of furniture in the sauna cabin's kitchenette was the sofa bed. Linear and multi-functional, the sofa bed is an excellent choice for a small space, allowing the room to breathe and also transforming into a bed.
When choosing furniture, it's also worth considering its multi-functionality. For example, a sofa bed serves for sitting during the day and sleeping at night. Inside the sofa cushions, in addition to pillows, blankets are revealed for sleepers, so separate storage space is not needed.
When space is limited, every decorative element that is useful as well as beautiful brings a special kind of joy. Minimise quantity, maximise quality!
