Is a building permit required?
Currently, a building permit is required for outbuildings of all sizes that have a fireplace – so this includes garden saunas. According to the current estimate, the building code reform coming into effect at the beginning of 2025 will exempt garden saunas smaller than 30 square metres from the building permit procedure.
There are no changes coming to other regulations and restrictions concerning the construction of outbuildings. For example, building rights and minimum distances must continue to be observed.
