A cottage sauna from a Finnish family business: ”The scope of delivery and price-quality ratio are superior.”

Ehta delivered a 20-square-metre sauna cabin to Marketta Tiira and Ari Nyman on a turnkey basis:

“Your price-quality ratio and delivery compared to competitors – what it covered was simply superior.”, Ari summarises the reasons for his purchase decision.

According to the couple, it was also important that Saunamökki 20 is a show sauna in Marketanpuisto, Espoo. Even though the structure and details of Marketta and Ari's sauna cabin were modified quite a lot from the finished model, it was important to see a real-sized building other than just in photographs.

Many factors influencing the purchasing decision were perhaps Building and delivery content adaptability, but also design and Company background:

“One point was this flexibility. There was the option to change the position of the wall, the position of the door, so that was a big thing. We got it to look like ours – for our needs.”

“We didn’t necessarily want a building from some huge firm. The idea appealed to us that this is Finnish and that it was still a family business. And then we wanted something modern in terms of appearance… you had buildings like this.”

Now Marketta and Ari are sitting on the sofa of a atmospheric sauna cabin, looking content. A beautiful view of the Finnish lake landscape of Mäntyharju opens up from the landscape window. The birch is green in an almost dazzlingly bright way, typical of early summer. Marketta has just been for a morning swim.

“The water was terribly cold, outrageously cold,” Marketta chuckles.

A separate sauna cabin down by the shore enhanced the sauna experience and provided extra space

Marketta and Ari ordered a lakeside cottage plot with a sauna cabin because they wanted a separate building for sauna use. In the old cabin, the sauna had been built inside, and they wanted it removed.

“This has provided a much better sauna experience. Sauna and swimming are the main attractions at the cottage in the summer, even for guests. All in all, this has made our time here much more comfortable,” describes Marketta.

With the separate sauna building, there is now more space and the overall setup better serves the different needs of cabin living.

Ari walks towards the wise old cottage and gets excited describing the change:

“We've managed to specify that we now have more space in the [old cabin] to cook and do other things. And then you can still potter around here. It's your own space to be here – to enjoy the sauna and heating the sauna.”

“The sauna experience has become its own whole thing – starting with heating the sauna itself and fetching the wood. It's really lovely to be here in peace doing that, even alone sometimes,” Marketta continues.

The standard delivery now includes a landscape window, bringing nature closer during every stage of your sauna experience:

“In my opinion, it's really nice… when you light the fire and wait for it to warm up and then add another load… and in the meantime, you enjoy the view. It didn't even occur to us originally. Marketta then asked about it, that a landscape window like that, that you have something like that. It was important to get this view into the sauna because it wasn't there before.”

“If a big window hadn’t been found, we wouldn’t have bought it,” Marketta remarks. The comment makes everyone laugh.

There's a big grain of truth in Marketta's comment. Because a summer cottage is a big investment, it's worth doing it properly all at once, so you don't regret it afterwards.

Acquiring a sauna cabin is an important investment – listen to your own needs

Turning a dream cottage into reality requires vision and flexibility from the building supplier. Marketta and Ari thank Ehta for this:

“Planning and customisation was easy with Ethan.”

“We managed to make it look like ours, or for our needs.”

The illustration describes the joint planning process with examples.

“For example, there would have been a standard window here. And we were thinking that we don't even want to be able to see from there to here, or from here to the main cottage... so take that away. And it was completely fine with everything, like, got it! And a landscape window... and we got that mirrored window there. In my opinion, it was very clear.”

“In the Marketanpuisto building, the rooms were in a completely opposite order… we put the sauna at one end.

There are big differences in the delivery contents of cottage packages

Marketta and Ari admire the comprehensiveness and price of Ehta's delivery content:

“The overall package was the deciding factor. When we compared the same price, which this package was... we even went to negotiate at K-Rauta on the spot: for the same price, we would have gotten approximately the same package, but it was just the frame delivery.”

I'm wondering, this can't be real. How can it be?

”There were no floors, no insulation, nothing, nothing in the ceiling. I thought, this can't be real. How can it be?

”You have to put quite a lot of money into something like this, so there really was quite a big difference. So for the same money, you get a finished product," Ari stresses.

“Your value for money and delivery compared to competitors – what it covers was quite superior indeed.”

The service package was clear to the buyer in addition to its comprehensiveness:

“In my opinion, everything was perfectly clear. Also in terms of the building permit – all the photos and drawings and everything else were easy to submit to move it forward.”

The customer service was excellent and the delivery process was smooth

Ari Nyman praises Ehta's customer service effusively.

“Customer service is absolutely fantastic. [Hanna] responded really quickly. And all the options were very clear. In terms of what goes with what and how this will proceed. And everything was accurate. Absolutely brilliant.”

“Friendly, fast, and when they promised a delivery week, they kept it,” recalls Marketta. Winter delivery was a little nerve-wracking beforehand, but everything went well.

In addition to the questions being answered, communication from Ehta was active:

“We had quite a few questions about flexibility and many other things, so we always got a personalised answer quickly. I think we were kept pretty well informed about the timeline too, that it was at this stage and like this.”

Payment has been made and assistance continued even after the cottage was paid for:

“It was only understood the first summer that mosquito netting would be needed here. And we got in touch to ask for tips on how it should preferably be done, as this is a kind of tipping window – and you then found a solution, and it wasn't even expensive.

I dropped it straight in there. And then they also asked about something else afterwards... that I received that service even after the deal was done.”

Ehtan's sauna cabin has brought well-being and peace of mind

Arin and Marketta exude contentment as they describe the change their sauna cabin has brought to their cabin holidays.

“This has genuinely increased our enjoyment, as we can be right next to the sauna... we can go directly to enjoy that view, sit there, and enjoy that nature. It has certainly increased our well-being and peace of mind.”

“The perfect sauna moment comes from having time, peace, and a good feeling. The sauna is heated in good time. The sauna experience begins when you fetch the wood, get everything ready, and start the fire, resting in between and enjoying the scenery.”

What is the steam like in the Ehta sauna?

“Soft, good steam – and plenty of air,” Marketta replies without hesitation.

The reason for good ventilation is also clear:

“The structure ensures that when it is an open floating floor, there is sufficient oxygen.”

Marketta and Aki's tips for buying a sauna cabin

“I’d give the tip to consider your own resources, what you have time for and what you have skills for – do you want to build it yourself or have everything ready-made? Of course, also the matter of having a cottage and sauna that please your own eye and meet your needs.”

Ari wants to justify in more detail why resources are worth considering:

“For me, at least, this works really well, that it came as a ready-made turnkey solution. We did consider it, when we started planning this, whether we would take it as a package, as stacked material. But then we realised that we would pay the difference for it to come all at once, –

– and we didn't have to do anything at all: the cabin arrived in place, the driver handled the job, put the chimney in place and that was it, fire in the hearth!

This is a solidly considered and invested in, and a truly important matter. And if we take good care of it now, it will be a part of our whole lives.”
