The price of a garden sauna or sauna cabin depends largely on how much of the work you want to do yourself and how finished a sauna solution you buy. The options are:
- order a turnkey garden sauna, delivered ready
- get a self-assembly sauna kit, or
- get a pile of logs delivered to your plot and roll up your sleeves.
If you don't put a price on your own labour, building it yourself is usually the cheapest option. However, it is worth bearing in mind that building a sauna isn't exactly child's play. If you have no building experience, you may lose a whole string of summer evenings perfect for sauna bathing to construction work.
What determines the price of a sauna cabin?
The price of a garden sauna or sauna cabin is affected by, among other things:
- how finished the sauna is when you buy it
- the equipment level of the garden sauna
- how big a sauna you want
As with other building projects, there is no upper limit to the price of a sauna cabin. When thinking about the size and equipment level of a sauna, only the sky and your imagination are the limit.
Most of us, however, end up with fairly standard solutions with small customisations. The main thing is probably that the sauna has a heater, benches and soft löyly. Customisations can be made to the colour of the sauna, the size and equipment of the changing room, the bench material or a possible deck, for example.
Examples: sauna cabin prices
Here are a few examples of what a garden sauna or sauna cabin might cost and what you get for that money.
- Turnkey sauna cabin, price approx. 15 000 – 20 000 €
- Size: 10-20 m2
- Amount of work: A turnkey sauna cabin requires no work from the buyer. The buyer is responsible for obtaining the building permit and preparing the foundations.
- Equipment: A turnkey sauna cabin is delivered ready for bathing, including the sauna heater and sauna benches, among other things. At this price you get a modern sauna cabin with a spacious sauna room, a changing room of about 10 m2 and a nicely sized deck.
- Who it suits: For those who value their own time and a quality sauna experience
- Self-assembly sauna kit, price approx. 10 000 – 15 000 €
- Size: Approximately 15 m2
- Amount of work: The buyer is left to assemble the sauna and to obtain the building permit and prepare the foundations.
- Equipment: In addition to the walls, a self-assembly sauna kit usually includes, for example: sauna benches, the ceiling, windows, doors, fittings, locks, the floor and gutters. Buying the sauna heater, for example, is the buyer's own responsibility. Exterior roofing material is not always included in the kit either.
- Who it suits: For a hard-working builder who knows how to handle a hammer and has plenty of free time.
- Small barrel sauna, price approx. 3000 – 10 000 €
- Size: 4-8 m²
- Amount of work: A barrel sauna is usually delivered in parts, leaving the assembly to the buyer.
- Equipment: A barrel sauna kit most often includes the building materials, doors and windows, roofing felt, sauna benches, the floor and so on. The sauna heater is usually not included in the price.
- Who it suits: For someone with some building skills who doesn't need much space or anything fancy from a sauna.
- Sauna cabin built on site from sawn timber, price ???
- Size: Size entirely up to you.
- Amount of work: Building on site from sawn timber means a traditionally built garden sauna: the builder obtains the building materials for the site and treats, works and installs them personally.
- Equipment: You decide the equipment entirely yourself.
- Who it suits: For a construction professional or at least a very experienced DIY enthusiast. It takes a lot of time and effort, so it helps to have skilled helpers among family and friends.
Finally: sauna cabin prices
In addition to the examples above, garden saunas and sauna cabins are available at many different prices and levels. As noted, the price of a garden sauna is most affected by its size, the level of equipment and how complete the sauna is on delivery.
When you are buying a sauna cabin or garden sauna, look at a few different sauna suppliers, as there are differences between the companies, the saunas and what the deliveries include.
The price of a sauna cabin alone doesn't always tell the whole story. It is always worth finding out what the sauna delivery includes.
Also think about what else you value in a sauna and a sauna supplier – for example, is it important to you that it is made in Finland?
