Building permit for an outdoor sauna
Once you have a picture of your future sauna, it is a good idea to find out how much building right you have left on your plot. Your local building authority can help with this. Building control can also tell you about any conditions for your future sauna: what colours, surface materials and roof the sauna may have. Building control will also advise you on the necessary permits and the responsible persons to be appointed.
An outdoor sauna usually requires a building permit. The architectural drawings of the model sauna (elevation, floor and foundation drawings) are included in the price and can be used when applying for a building permit. In some municipalities, building control requires more detailed permit drawings.

Foundations for a prefabricated sauna
The choice of foundation type depends on the kind of ground the sauna is built on: its load-bearing capacity and susceptibility to frost heave. A pier foundation is a good option for ground with good load-bearing capacity or for bedrock. A ground screw foundation is well suited to clay and sandy soil. The foundations of a sauna building are worth doing well, and it is advisable to use professionals to build them.
The sauna in the picture (Sauna 24) has been raised onto a pier foundation. In this case, building the foundation was effortless and inexpensive. The bedrock was flat and at ground level. A few holes were drilled into the rock for each pier, after which Lammin Betoni pier blocks were stacked up, reinforced (partly into the holes in the rock) and mortared.
Wastewater
When an outdoor sauna is used with carried water, the amount of wastewater is small and it can be connected to the municipal sewer network, soaked into the ground using an infiltration unit, or led into a stone pit made of coarse crushed stone, from which the water soaks into the ground. Building control typically gives guidance on wastewater treatment.
